Ishwar Chandra Vidyasagar: Commemorative Lecture Series - IV
200 years have gone by, but not silently; otherwise we would not have been reminiscing the birth of little boy Ishwar Chandra in 1820, who metamorphosised to the tittle "Dayar- Sagar", alias "Vidya-Sagar." Today, we stand here to talk on women empowerment, social reform, adult education, compulsory child education, logical & scientific pedagogy, indigenous medicine along with long lost cultural, philosophical identity and entity which now has amalgamated for the new genre.
Vidyasagar had the unique quality of 'acceptance', which is meaningful for existence by discarding superstition, which stood against humanity.
It is our pride privilege to host a commemorative lecture series during his lifetime, throughout the month of September.
Our notable speaker will speak on his medical world, his life and work at Karmatar on 14th. On 21st, we will hear the contribution of his contemporaries Pandit Madanmohan Tarkalankar promoting primary education and Syt Ramananda Chattopadhyay’s effort to introduce his daughters to the literary world. This will be followed by our international webinar lecture series three, dated 26th September, on the icon's birthday on Women Empowerment, who set a benchmark for themselves, namely, Kadambini Ganguly, Swarnamoyee Devi and Begum Rokeya. End September, another international webinar will mark the conclusive lecture on the contribution of Missionaries during the period of Vidyasagar, broadly during colonization.
