School of Mathematics and Computer Science (MACS) - Student Guide Application Form
Please use this form to apply to become a Student Guide in the Pilot Scheme that is running in Semester 1 of the 2019/20 academic year at Heriot-Watt's Edinburgh Campus.
To be eligible to become a Student Guide in this pilot programme, you must meet the following criteria:
• You must be a student who will be going into Year 4 of your programme in the 2019/20 academic year.
• You must be a student in MACS studying a Computer Science subject (i.e. Computer Science, Computer Systems, Information Systems, or Software Engineering).
WHAT IS A STUDENT GUIDE?
As a Student Guide (SG), you will be in Year 4 of your degree programme and will be responsible for facilitating the learning of students in Years 1 or 2. You will act as an additional level of support, alongside what the University already offers. As a current student, you will be able to provide advice and support based on your first-hand experience with a particular course or programme. You should be proud to be a Heriot-Watt student and keen to help other people. While you don’t necessarily need to be a “top student,” you should have a good understanding of the fundamental topics within your subject area. SGs should have a strong desire to develop their personal and professional skills through extra-curricular activities.
HOW THE PILOT WILL RUN IN YOUR SCHOOL
Within MACS in Semester 1 of the 2019/20 academic year, the Student Guide Programme pilot will be running for Year 2 Computer Science students. Student Guides in this scheme will run an open study session for students that takes place on a weekly basis. Their role will be to facilitate and enhance the learning of Year 2 students and provide them with an additional level of support alongside what the University already offers.
