UA Little Rock Communication Skills Center Staff Application
We're excited that you're interested in joining us in the CSC. The Communication Skills Center (CSC) in the Department of Applied Communication helps take the panic out of public speaking! The CSC is a free campus resource devoted to helping with all stages of the speech creation process. Offered both onsite in the Ottenheimer Learning Commons and virtually, via Zoom, Monday-Friday, our services include but are not limited to: managing anxiety, brainstorming topics, conducting research, organizing content, adapting messages to audiences, designing and integrating effective presentational aids, as well as one-on-one coaching. Work with the CSC and become a more comfortable, confident speaker!

Please take a moment and complete the application form. If you have any questions, be sure to email CSC Director, Dr. Kristen McIntyre (kagullicksm@ualr.edu).

We offer four positions in the CSC--all positions are expected to attend our full day in person training session the Friday before classes begin as well as attend our virtual Monday noon staff meetings:

Undergraduate/Graduate Internship: Students interested in this option will enroll in ACOM 2314 (students who have completed ACOM 1300 or transfer equivalent), 4314 (ACOM majors/minors), or ACOM 8300 (graduate students) to earn course credit toward their degree. There is a syllabus and curriculum used during the semester. Interns are expected to work a minimum of 10/hours a week in the CSC and attend the weekly staff meeting. The internship can be combined with Federal Work Study or Trojan Works.

Federal Work Study: Students interested in this option must have work study funds already secured to qualify for this position. Be sure to check on BOSS or with Financial Aid to make sure you have funding. Work Study students, depending on qualifications, are able to do a variety of work in the CSC. Work Study students usually work 10/hrs a week in the CSC (but this is determined by the amount of funding available) and attend the weekly staff meeting.

Trojan Works: This is a highly competitive position for students who do NOT have work study funds. Trojan Works students work up to 19/hrs a week in the CSC and attend the 1hr weekly staff meeting (total of 20hours/week).

Volunteer: Students interested in this option, depending on qualifications, are also able to do a variety of work in the CSC. Volunteers must commit to a minimum of 4/hours a week in the CSC and attend the weekly staff meeting.
