Introduction to Mariachi Music Summer Camp

Students will be provided materials and instruments for the course as needed. They are welcome to bring their own.

Intro to Mariachi Music is designed for students with some experience playing violin, trumpet, or guitar. Instructors will divide students into three groups; Violin - group 1, Trumpet- group 2, and Guitar/Cello/Double Bass - group 3. For students in guitar - group 3, prior experience is desired, but not required. All students will spend part of the daily session on general musicianship - mariachi rhythms and styles - and develop individual technique on their instrument.
The 3 groups will join together the reminder of the session to play basic mariachi-style exercises and learn  traditional Mexican songs. We will also listen and watch some of the main exponents of this music genre on line.

We plan to end our Mariachi Music Camp on Friday, August 20th with a presentation of the skills learned and a performance of Mexican songs, like "De Colores" and "Cielito Lindo".

**The Summer Mariachi Music Camp will be held in accordance with 4J School District COVID safety protocols specific to music education. Including the practice of social distancing and required PPE.**]
