University District Farmers Market produce rescue by bike registration form Saturdays at 1:40pm
The U District Food Bank is looking for help rescuing fresh and nutritious produce from the University District Farmers Market on Saturdays starting at 1:40pm! Everything that we rescue from the farmers market will be used to ensure that food insecure families in Northeast Seattle always have access to fresh and nutritious produce during the spring, summer, and fall.

The food bank is asking for 5 volunteer riders who are interested in learning more about the different overlapping webs of community support that help promote food security and prosperity in Seattle.

Each volunteer rider will need to be able to carry at least 2 banana boxes full of a variety of produce on their bikes. Bike trailers are available for any volunteer who would like to use one for this food rescue.

This produce rescue for the University District Food Bank will take around forty five minutes to make.

If you have any questions or run into any issues signing up please contact Maxwell at maxwellb@cascadebicycleclub.org

How many banana box sized plastic tubs are you able to transport on your bike (on a cargo bike or with a trailer)?
A full banana box may weigh as much at 50 pounds after it is filled with rescued produce. We have a number of cargo bike trailers available that can be hooked up to nearly all types and styles of bikes if you do not have a way to carry banana box sized plastic tubs on your bike.
Do you need to borrow a bike trailer from us?
These bike trailers are easy to install on your bike and at many of our parner food banks they will be available there for you to borrow while volunteering for us. After you are finished with your food rescue just unhook the trailer and it’s hitch from your bike and give it back to a food bank staff member. Currently our trailers work best with all bikes with a quick-release rear wheel. Compatibility for bikes with a bolt on wheel thru-axle varies. Email maxwellb@cascadebicycleclub.org to see if your bike is compatible with our trailers.
