Bright Futures: Growing Young Visionaries
August 8th - 12th, 10am-3pm
JMU's Burress Hall, 820 Madison Dr. , Harrisonburg, Room 0229
Join us for the eighth annual Youth Igniting Change Institute (YIC) for rising 9th-12th graders! This year participants will cultivate their visions for a brighter, just world.
Throughout the week, youth will envision a world that is free from oppression and learn about ways communities have already created systems and practices of liberation that both serve and empower. Participants will also work with local artists to express their visions through art while exploring the connection between artistic expression and social change. In addition, students will participate in mindfulness-based exercises and learn strategies for emotional well-being.
Students will also enjoy an art and activism-focused field trip. The field trip will be no farther than 3 hours away from Harrisonburg.
Youth Igniting Change is FREE for all participants and is open to rising 9th – 12th graders in Harrisonburg/Rockingham. Lunch is provided for everyone each day. Transportation can be provided for participants living in the Harrisonburg/Rockingham area as needed, and transportation will be provided for ALL for the field trip.
