Study aim
This short anonymous questionnaire (23 questions) is for people who are sexually interested in women.
It aims to discover correlations between the various sexual interests in the paraphilia of masochism (also known as submissive sexual fantasies). The aim of this study is to find the fundamental dimensions of masochism: the small number of basic ideas that, either alone or in combination, constitute the ultimate sources of arousal in men's submissive fantasies.
Survey format
— You'll be asked to judge on a scale the level of arousal you experience (or have experienced in the past) from various themes of submissive fantasies. The scale ranges from 1 (no arousal at all) to 5 (intense arousal).
— The basic idea of each theme is presented first, and a number of examples are given to illustrate how that theme is expressed in a variety of scenarios and fantasies.
— Read carefully through the examples and focus on those that speak to you in judging your level of arousal from the basic idea expressed in those examples.
To clarify:
→ If none of the scenarios speak to you, then answer "No arousal at all".
→ If only one scenario speaks to you but you have experienced intense arousal from it, then answer "Intense arousal".
— For every question, you'll find an optional text box for those situations where you feel a need to clarify your response or add any relevant information, or if you think the question is too ambiguous. Feel free to use this option whenever you feel like it, but it's completely optional.
Caution
This survey asks you about your fantasies, not your actual sexual behavior with other people. Of course, some ideas are arousing in fantasy but not in real life. When answering the questions, think about what arouses you (or has aroused you in the past) in fantasy, not necessarily reality. (For example, when asking about infidelity, think: does the idea of partner infidelity arouse me in an abstract fantasy? Don't think about your actual current partner's potential infidelity in a real relationship.)
Consent, privacy, voluntary participation, data handling, & right to withdraw
Participation in this study is completely voluntary and can be abandoned at any moment if you don't feel like completing it. By continuing, you agree that your answers will be stored and used for research purposes. Note, however, that the survey is anonymous and no personally identifying information is collected beyond your answers. Because the answers are anonymous, you obviously cannot withdraw yours from the study if, at a later time, you wish to do so for whatever reason. Thank you for your understanding.
