The 2019-20 competition season is almost here with 25 competitions on the schedule.
In mid-September, ODC will be assigning officials (Referees, Starters, and Mentoring Recorders where applicable and available) to provincial competitions. The same applies to Mentoring Meet Coordinators for selected competitions only.
A Mentoring Recorder will not be running the meet, but will provide guidance and assistance. Mentoring does not mean that you must be at the meet; your assistance in setting up the meet is still mentoring!
All Level 1 or higher Referees, Starters, Recorders and Meet Coordinators (selected meets only) are asked to submit their requests for the provincial competitions of their choice. Please indicate your interest by September 9th, 2019. Please indicate every competition that you are available for and would like to be considered for.
ODC will assign officials to competitions based on the following criteria:
-Only accredited officials who are paid-up members will be considered for assignment
-All Level 2 officials (Referees and Starters) will get priority in assignments whenever possible
-Level 1 Referees will be assigned to assist or may chief some of the meets with assistance from a mentor
-Level 3B and higher officials will be used for mentoring whenever possible. Please select a meet that you would like to mentor at or be the chief at. BCSSA ODC may still assign you as chief if there are no Level 2 officials available.
-ODC will spread assignments out as fairly as possible.
-SSC will assign Chief Officials for LT CC# 1 (Fort St John) and for ST Canada Cup Junior Final (Richmond)
-In consultation with clubs, BCSSA ODC may assign officials as assistants for mentoring purposes
-Clubs may ask their own chief officials and must let ODC know of they chose to do so. Final decision rests with ODC.
-ODC will notify you of your assignments by September 21, 2019
-Available funding for assigned officials will be announced as soon as possible. Funding is not guaranteed at this time.
Please ensure you have a copy of the 2018 ISU Regulations and that you familiarize yourself along with any updated rule changes from ISU, (ISU GREEN BOOK -LT and ISU RED BOOK -ST) and 2019-2020 SSC Red Book and BCSSA. These are available as a free download from SSC and the ISU website. Make sure you are familiar with any bulletins published by SSC and BCSSA (

We would like to thank you for your continued dedication and commitment to speed skating. Your comments/suggestions are always welcome. We look forward to working with and seeing you at the competitions.
