Summer Housing Request
The summer housing rate is $390 per month ($97.50 per week), and is billed for all housing used between May 26, 2024 through September 1, 2024.
 
To qualify for summer housing, you must be a current Gustavus student, and priority will be given to those that meet one (or more) of the following criteria:

- Conducting research at Gustavus:
- Summer Term*/Enrolled for course credit at Gustavus
- Enrolled in an internship for credit through Gustavus
- Working at an on-campus job

*Note: Per the Financial Aid/Student Accounts office, those participating in Summer Term will pay their summer term period housing fees up front when that tuition is billed.  At this time, all other summer residents will be billed on the 1st (weekday) of the month for the prior month's housing.

Those with off-campus employment in the summer may apply, but priority is given to those with on campus responsibilities during the summer. Housing preferences listed on your form, as well as requested roommates, are taken into consideration, but Residential Life reserves the right to make and adjust placements, and/or consolidate based on space and dates needed.

Notify Residential Life as soon as possible if your plans change - no-shows/late cancellations are subject to a $100 placement fee due to the space having been held for you.

Note: Moves to summer housing will be on a very tight turnaround May 28-30 as units are cleared by Facilities/Custodial after Commencement weekend. You will receive notice as soon as your unit is ready for move-in, and you will need to move out of Spring assignment to your Summer housing that same day/evening.  We apologize for any inconvenience, but all other residential housing will be in use for Reunion Weekend May 31, so you will not be able to stay in your spring assignment housing.  If are not on campus/unable to complete a move during the May 28 - 30 period, you will need to fully move out of your Spring assignment housing by 6pm on Saturday, May 25 and then return to campus June 2 or later to move in to your summer housing assignment.

  • College View Apartments are four-person units consisting of two double bedrooms (half of College View is used by the Tennis & Life program staff, and half is allocated as summer housing).
  • Chapel View Townhomes are four-person units consisting of four single-bedrooms.
One Summer Collegiate Fellow will be assigned to each building.

Both College View and Chapel View have in-unit kitchens. No meal plan is included in your summer housing - please contact the Dining Service office directly if you want to set up a balance for charging meals over the summer.  

Please note that summer housing will be assigned based more on logistics (Spring assignment, requested roommates, move-in and out dates, Fall assignment, etc) and not based on class year.   

We cannot guarantee a particular housing assignment.

Summer housing are open-gender assignments and placements are made based on roommates requested and/or move-around logistical needs, so if you have not listed students to form a four-person roommate group and have a gender preference for your summer assignment/roommates, please list that here.

  1. Remain in your Spring assignment until your Summer housing assignment is ready and move as Summer units become available after Commencement; OR
  2. Move out at the end of the Spring semester by the posted closing deadlines and return later to move in to summer housing at a later date (must be entered below/communicated to ResLife in advance).
All non-Summer housing is turned over to Summer Programs as of Spring closing for use Reunion Weekend (June 2-4) and for camps during the rest of the summer - you will not be able to stay in or leave belongings in your Spring housing assignment.

If you will be here all summer and your Fall 2024 housing assignment is in College View or Chapel View, we will do our best to match your summer placement, however some units are held offline for Facilities or not under ResLife control over the summer so we cannot guarantee a particular summer assignment.  For those arriving in August, please check the Early Arrival housing information page.

Please let us know if you will be in Summer Housing through your move to your Fall assignment, or if you will checking out of housing at an earlier date and then returning for regular Fall 2024 move-in dates.

Please note that summer billing includes all housing from when the College closes after Commencement (6pm on Saturday, May 25) through move-in for the Fall semester, September 1 , 2024; or until you have fully move-out and returned your key).  Housing the week of May 27 will be your Spring assignment until your summer assignment is ready, housing for June and July will be a summer housing assignment in College View or Chapel View, housing for August will be in your Fall housing assignment as soon as it has been vacated and turned over from Summer Programs.  Specific move-around schedules and information will be sent out via email.

Note: Those who are not living on campus for Fall must depart their summer housing by/on August 2, 2024.  Starting in August, summer residents will move to their fall assignments to allow for turnover of summer units - we are not able to offer housing in August to those who are not assigned on-campus housing for Fall 2024.

I understand that all College policies apply during Summer Housing, and that billing period begins the Monday following Commencement if you remain in your Spring assignment, or the day you pick up your keys if you move out and return at a later summer date. Summer housing fee is $390 per month ($97.50 per week).  

Billing is sent monthly to student accounts. Summer residents registered for Summer Term are billed for the week of May 27 and for summer term housing on June 3.  Otherwise, charges are sent to student accounts on the 1st for the prior month's housing dates (June 3 for housing the week of May 27, July 1 for June housing, August 5 for July housing, and September 2 for August housing).

Housing rates are not prorated due to vacations, etc.; summer billing continues until you have moved out and returned your key.  Submission of a housing request does not guarantee placement - requests will be reviewed by the Director of Residential Life. Notify the Residential Life office immediately if your plans or request has changed. Those assigned a summer housing space are subject to a $100 placement fee for no-shows/late cancellations. Summer residents will receive notification via email of their move dates and times based on availability of units (as units may need cleaning/maintenance, or be used for Summer Programs/Reunions, each roommate group will receive specific moving instructions and deadlines for both move IN and OUT of summer housing). You must be checking your email over the summer. Graduating Seniors or any others in summer housing who are not living on campus for Fall must depart their summer housing by/on August 2, 2024, as summer residents will start the process for moves to Fall housing and temporary housing is not available.
