How it Works (T&C's) *
Sort and collect the items that you no longer want and are happy to give away. Identify a suitable and practical site on your property boundary – such as the driveway or next to your letter box – to place the items to be given away. On Sunday from 9.00 am onwards: Display the poster on your letter box so people know you have items to give away. Place items to be given away at the site no earlier than 9.00am. It is recommended you be there to keep an eye on what is happening and to meet local fossickers (but that’s your choice). At the end of the day take down the poster and take back any items left over – you are still responsible for any items that are not taken away. If it is left outside your property you will be in breach of the Clutha District Council Public Places Bylaw. Exclusions: No dangerous goods, chemicals, faulty electrical equipment, firearms or rubbish. What to do with leftover items: These can be put away again for the next Second-Hand Sunday or you may wish to consider other second-hand outlets. Consider the 5 R’s of Reduce, Reuse, Recycle, Recover and lastly, Residual waste to landfill. If you are collecting items: Only collect items at households where the Second Hand Sunday poster is displayed. No door knocking please. It is recommended to have electrical items that you collect checked to make sure they are safe. Do not enter their properties – no one wants to trespass.
