In recent months, some adults and elected officials have launched campaigns and enacted new laws that seek to limit what teachers can teach and what students will learn about race and racism in America.
We pledge support for New York State Education Department’s Culturally Responsive-Sustaining Education framework and advocate for our school administration to incorporate it into the curricula of a diverse range of subjects and provide teachers with resources to implement those curricula in their lesson plans.
We pledge support for educators in our schools:
•
Who seek to teach us complete and accurate histories.
•
Who help us better understand problems in our society today and how to critically examine various solutions to those problems.
•
Who incorporate culturally responsive-sustaining education into their classes.
We commit to using our collective voices and our collective actions to advance racial equity.
Educators, teach the truth.
We students will not be silenced.
