National Korean Studies Outreach Program - Chicago
Introduction to Korean History and Culture for Educators

Based in Los Angeles, National Korean Studies (NKS) is dedicated to informing educators about Korea’s history and culture as well as sharing stories that highlight the Korean American experience in order to promote cross-cultural understanding. This year, NKS is conducting a one-day outreach program at the University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC) to educate Chicagoland teachers and to provide them with the tools they need to incorporate Korean studies into their classrooms. Special guests from the University of Illinois at Chicago, Wheaton College, Roosevelt University, and others will deliver lectures and performances. In addition, there will be an exhibition area featuring presentations and activities. Topics will include:

-Korean history
-Korean literature
-Korean poetry
-Korean language
-Korean-American families
-Korean percussion performance and drumming
-Korean folk art
-Korean traditional costume ‘Hanbok’
-The Korean Wave (Korean popular culture)
-Korean food
-And more!

This program will be free for all participants, but space is limited. A Korean lunch (Bibimbap) will be served. Teachers who attend the workshop in its entirety will receive 5 CPDUs and a sticker for free parking at the venue.
