You are
cordially invited to attend the 25th Annual Evan R. Liblit Memorial
Scholarship Breakfast at the Irish Coffee Pub, 131 Carleton Avenue, East Islip
on Wednesday, November 16th to celebrate America Recycles Day and to
honor the memory and legacy of Evan R. Liblit, a pioneer and leader in the
field of recycling and solid waste management. See below for details.
This year
marks a milestone in Evan Liblit’s legacy to Stony Brook University with the 25th
award of scholarships to outstanding Graduate and Undergraduate students in the
fields of environmental science and solid waste management, including our first
scholarship to a masters candidate in the field of Marine Conservation and
Policy. We are pleased to be able to
honor these scholars and to introduce them to you, their steadfast
supporters.
As we
enter 2023, Long Island continues to face a daunting variety of challenges in
the management of solid waste. The Liblit Committee has taken the lead over the
last three years in sponsoring in-person symposia and online webinars to
address these issues. This Breakfast is always a great opportunity to network and
those conversations may lead to better solutions.
We will
be joined a number of past scholars on video, and by District Governor Sonia
Saleh of Rotary District 7255, who will announce the winners of the Recycling Bin Design/Painting
Contest for Rotary Interact high school clubs.
Our
keynote speakers will be Dennis Lynch, our first chair of the steering
committee and Dr. Frank Roethel, a founder of the scholarship program, who will
share their thoughts on the growth and maturity of our scholarship assistance.
Registration
begins at 8:00 am and we plan to conclude the event by 10:00 am. Individual attendance
at the Breakfast is $50.00 and corporate sponsorships are available according
to the attached registration/sponsorship form. Please return the form by November
5th. Corporate sponsors will be recognized at the Breakfast and are
entitled to have between 4 and 10 attendees, depending on the sponsorship level.
The difference between your payment and the value of each ticket ($19.00) is
tax deductible. Please contact Kaitlin Giglio at 631 632-8704 or kaitlin.giglio@stonybrook.edu if
you need more information.
We look
forward to seeing you on November 16th.
