National Mathematics Day - 2023

National Mathematics Day is celebrated every year on 22nd December to commemorate the birth anniversary of India’s famed mathematician Srinivasa Ramanujan and it raises awareness about his golden achievements. It is an occasion to remember his achievements and to reflect on the significance of mathematics in our everyday lives. It inspires to understand how mathematics is important for developing humanity from the grass roots level.

This year Dera Natung Govt. College, Itanagar in collaboration with Arunachal Pradesh State Council for Science and Technology (APSCS&T) is organizing National Mathematics Day at Dera Natung Govt. College, Itanagar. To celebrate the occasion various events are being organized and on 22nd December, 2023, a program would also be held at Dera Natung Govt. College, Itanagar to observe the auspicious occasion.

Competitions overview with terms and conditions:

a) Essay and Drawing competition will be held at Commerce block, Dera Natung Govt. College, Itanagar on 18th December, 2023 from 2:00-3:00 pm.

Essay writing Competition on the theme “Mathematics Unites”:

1.    The medium of competition is either English or Hindi only.

2.    The maximum word limit for essay writing is 1000 words.

3.    Pen and paper will be provided.

4.    Time allotted: One hour

Drawing Competition:

1.    The participants have to imagine and present their creative and innovative ideas to influence the society and create awareness about mathematics.

2.    No restriction on drawing type and style.

3.    Drawing sheet (A3 size) will be provided.

4.    The participants have to bring their own drawing materials.

5.    Time allotted: One hour


b) Slogan writing and Quiz competition will be held at Commerce block and story-telling at conference hall, Dera Natung Govt. College, Itanagar on 20th December, 2023.

Time: Slogan Writing: 10:00-11:00 am

          Story-telling: 11:00 am-12:30 pm

          Quiz: 1:00-3:00 pm

Slogan writing Competition:

1.   The participant should write a meaningful slogan to popularize mathematics and create awareness on its importance.

2.   The slogan should be unique, innovative, inspiring and should not be plagiarized.

3.   The medium of language is either English or Hindi only.

4.   The participant can write the slogan in any form of art on a plane sheet.

5.   Writing/drawing sheet (A3 size) will be provided.

6.   The participants have to bring their own writing/drawing materials.

7.   The maximum word limit for slogan writing is 50 words.

Story-telling competition on the theme “Mathematics in everyday life”:

1.   Each participant will be given 5mins to tell the story.

2.   The participants should prepare a story on the above given theme.

3.   Example of story-telling: Role of mathematics in your life and society, Biography of renowned mathematician, Discoveries of theorems and formulas and etc.    

4.   The medium of competition is either English or Hindi only.

Quiz competition:

1.  The competition will be among the participating institutes.

2.  Each institute comprising of two participants will be called a team.

3.  Each team will pick a chit to determine the order of questions to be asked.

4.  Each question will carry five (05) marks.

5.  If a team is unable to answer the question, it will be passed to the next team. If the next team answers the question, the team will be credited three (03) marks.

6.  Each team will get 30 seconds to answer a question and 10 seconds to answer the passed on question.

7.  There will be four rounds of questions.

8.  The team scoring highest marks will be declared winner.

9.  The medium is either English or Hindi only.

The result will be declared on 20th December, 2023. The list of winners will be sent to the concerned head of the institute and also intimated to the winners personally. Prizes shall be given away on 22nd December during the National Mathematics Day celebration at 9:30 am.

 

N.B.:

a)    Eligibility for participation (Class 8 to undergraduate level)

b)    Participants can participate in the competition only after registering themselves in the above given link.

c)    Participants should wear proper uniform and bring students ID card.

d)    Participants should reach the venue half an hour before scheduled time.

e)    A student can participate in any three competitions only.
