Sometimes volunteers continue to be needed up to a week before the convention, so it is difficult to know when we are "done" filling spots. Thank you for understanding. We do our very best to get back to folks in a timely manner, but it may be up to two weeks after submitting your application before you are contacted.
Job Openings: Each of these jobs needs several people. Note: we cannot accommodate specific scheduling needs because it gets too complicated. Make sure if you are applying you aren't overextending yourself with other duties (demo bottoming, presenting, etc).
Setup and Tear-down Crew:
It's exactly what it says. The time for this spot is before the event gets going and after the event is over. You will be working with the team leads to make the space "Dark Odyssey" style. You will need to be able to lift over 20 lbs. and be pretty mobile. Lots of carrying and moving things around. Preference goes to those with theater design, stage design, decorating, and other creative people to execute a "vision." Set-up is Thursday, Tear-down is Monday.
Space Flippers:
We need help turning the classroom spaces into play spaces and vice versa. You MUST be able to move heavy objects! This volunteer position is each day (Friday, Saturday, AND Sunday) from 6 pm-7 pm and 3 am-4 am. This position carries a full-entry compensation.
Registration:
Checking in attendees, collecting past due amounts, and make sure forms are filled out accurately. Discretion and focus are paramount in this position. You will be interacting with attendees so a pleasant calm demeanor is a must.
Checkpoint Greeter:
Monitoring checkpoints throughout the hotel ensuring all those entering convention spaces are attendees with the appropriate credentials. Provide directions to those who may be lost. Assertiveness and the ability to contain an issue calmly until the appropriate staffer has been contacted are skills needed for this position.
Bootblacks
People wishing to bootblack this year will need to fill out this form and will be contacted by our bootblack coordinator. These shifts will be 6-hour partial comps only. Tips will be split between the bootblack and the charity selected by Dark Odyssey for Winter Fire 2024. Previous experience required.
Playspace Monitor (PM):
Monitor the Playspace for safety issues, assisting with equipment changes during the shift, keeping safer sex supplies stocked, and answering questions. We will need to know any qualifications you have and experience level.
Thank you for considering applying. If you have questions, please email us at
