https://www.chabsa.org/

A. Announcement:
The Chesapeake Area Biological Safety Association (ChABSA) is accepting abstracts for the 2024 Annual Scientific Symposium. You do not need to be a member of ChABSA to submit an abstract. Don’t miss your chance to present your original research, safety methods, protocols, or other biosafety-related information to our community of biosafety professionals. Selected abstracts will be presented at the Annual Summer Symposium to be held Wednesday, June 5, 2024 at the Universities at Shady Grove in Rockville, MD. You may submit an abstract for an Update talk (~20 minutes), a Full talk (~45 minutes), or allow the selection committee to decide based on your abstract.

B. Submission instructions:
Abstracts are accepted on a rolling basis thru April 12, 2024, 5 PM EST using the online submission form. All authors will be notified no later than 5 pm Eastern, April 26, 2024. The submission form is online with instructions for each block. Please select whether your submission should be considered for an Update talk, a Full talk, or either. While many submissions may be suitable for a Full talk, there are a limited number of speaking opportunities for a full talk. The best chance to be selected for a presentation would be to select either.

Please enter the information in each of the blocks below with attention to the word limitation listed for each block below. All submissions will receive a confirmation of receipt email. If you have any questions or concerns with the form, please email Dave Harbourt at david.harbourt@fda.hhs.gov.

If your abstract is selected, you will be notified by email no later than April 26, 2024. Additional details about how to prepare for your talk will be provided when you are notified of acceptance. If your abstract is accepted, you must register for the Conference and pay the appropriate fee if any for registration.

We look forward to your submission.

Sincerely,
ChABSA Council

Abstract Text
Limit 900 words or less. The formula for how to write an abstract ( excerpted fromhttps://www.exordo.com/blog/how-to-write-an-abstract-for-a-conference/) “When considering how to write an abstract, follow this formula: topic +title + motivation + problem statement + approach + results + conclusions =conference abstract. Here’s the formula in more detail. Adapt it as you need to fit your research discipline. 1. Abstract topic: How will your abstract convince the conference organizers that you’ll add to the discussion at their event? 2. Abstract title: What is your conference paper about and what makes it interesting? A rule of thumb: give your title of 12 words or less. 3. Motivation: Why should your audience care about the problem and your results? This section should include the background to your research, the importance of it, and the difficulty of the area. 4. The problem: What problem are you trying to solve? Are you using a generalized approach, or a situation specific one? Clearly state the topic of your paper and your research question in this section. 5. Study design, approach to review a topic or concept development? How did you approach the issue or making progress on it? 6. Predictions and results: What findings or trends did your analysis uncover? Were they as you expected, or not? 7. Conclusions: What do your results mean? How will they contribute to your field? Are your results general (or generalizable) or highly specific?”
