Thank you for your interest in the BLM Harm Reduction Outreach Worker
This position is responsible for providing an array of harm reduction services to people actively using drugs. The Harm Reduction Outreach Worker will be primarily responsible for direct support to participants, including resource navigation, peer support, providing safer use and safer sex materials and education, and supporting our harm reduction services. All activities are designed to be consistent with our service model, which is based on educating and empowering individuals to advocate for themselves and make self-identified changes in their lives.
Responsibilities
-Facilitate outreach to target populations;
-Assist program participants in making better use of available resources, develop effective communication with service providers, & care over time, and navigate the complexities of a multidisciplinary treatment environment;
-Link to recovery programs, pharmacy services, and supportive housing
-Document progress of participants via DAP notes
-Conduct needs assessment activities with prospective program participants to assess: 1) multiple obstacles in complex personal mental health issues and substance misuse); and 2) structural barriers and support service needs
Skills and Knowledge Required for the Position
-Adopting a strengths-based approach that assists participants to capitalize on their resources, talents, knowledge, and motivation
-Excellent organizational skills
-Excellent verbal and written communication skills
-Experience working with at-risk populations
Required Experience:
-1 year work experience in the areas of substance use, sex work, and HIV and HCV prevention desired. (can be substituted for life experience)
-Skills in the areas of safer injection and safer drug use techniques and overdose prevention, HIV and HCV prevention and treatment desired
-Residency in Paterson preferred
Salary
$15 an hour, 3 days a week, 2 hours per day (6pm - 8pm)
