The Arabian Horse Breeders Association of Oregon (AHBAO) and the family of Irwin Schimmel will award a $1,000 scholarship each year there are appropriate applicants. Applicants must be a current member of AHBAO. The scholarship will be awarded to a graduating high school senior. The AHBAO Scholarship Committee will consider all applications. Scholarship applications will be evaluated on the following:
- Promotion and support of Arabian/Half-Arabian horses (50%)
- Contribution to and participation in AHBAO/Regional Youth Club activities and other horse-related youth organizations (15%)
- Competition successes (all classes of competition) (15%)
- Academic achievements (15%)
- Contribution to and participation in extra-curricular activities other than horse-related (5%)
The recipient of the AHBAO/Irwin Schimmel Scholarship will be announced within 45 days of the application submission deadline. The Scholarship check will be written to a two- or four-year institute of higher education and may be used for tuition or books. The Scholarship must be used within two years from date of presentation or funds will be forfeited by recipient and revert to AHBAO/Irwin Schimmel Youth Scholarship account.
