This form is to register your interest in my new "Fluent Listening Through Songs".
This may be a "listening course", but in reality, you will improve ALL of your skills in English. As we will use listening as the basis for a whole range of activities that will improve your:
- Vocabulary
- Grammar
- Speaking
- Writing
Here is a brief explanation of some of the activities that we will do in the course:
- Transcribe what people say on songs and films. This will help you to learn to understand every word people say and not just "the general idea".
- Use new vocabulary from songs and films. You will learn advanced vocabulary in context from songs and films and you will USE it!
- Understand different English accents. We will listen to interviews of rock stars / singers that have a wide range of English accents, so this means that you will be much better prepared when you need to listen to someone from Scotland, Liverpool, Manchester or wherever it may be!
- Focus on how and when words change. This means that you will understand fast speech much more easily as you'll be aware of these changes which often cause problems.
- Analyse advanced grammatical structures. You will be asked to transcribe what is said in a song (which we be a difficult grammar structure), then we will analyse the grammar so that you can start using it.
- Speak to other course members and received feedback on your speaking. This means that you will be able to eliminate mistakes from your speaking, as you will receive speaking feedback from me EVERY lesson.
- Speaking for Listening. This is a technique that basically says "if you say SAY it, you can HEAR it". So you will be asked to mimic things you hear. Don't worry though, I won't ask you to sing! You will have the chance to practise what we study in the lessons by recording yourself singing (or talking if you prefer) where you will mimic the song that we study. I will give you the simple technology to do this and no-one will ever hear the recordings (unless you give me permission to listen). Doing this activity will give you better pronunciation and fluency.
We will do lots more in the course, but just this is just to give you an idea of some of the activities we'll be doing in the lessons.
Here is some of the boring (but important) information about the course:
- The lesson time will be 1 hour
- The lessons will be on Zoom
- The course will last 15 weeks (so that means 15 Saturdays)
- Each lesson will begin at 9am UK Time
- The first lesson will be on Saturday 13th April
- Recordings will be available if you miss a lesson
- There are only 12 places available on the course
And one more last thing... I guarantee you that we'll ONLY listen to AMAZING songs! I (like to think) that I have excellent taste in music, so I'm sure you'll love the songs!
You'll also learn a thing or two about English culture from the songs.
