Sleepy Hollow Road Widening Project
The West Virginia Department of Transportation, Division of Highways (WVDOH) is seeking input on their project to widen a portion of Putnam County Route (CR) 34/16 (Sleepy Hollow Drive).
Below, please find a summary of the project as well as instructions for commenting and how to find more information. Please provide comments by November 20, 2023.

Purpose and Need for the Project
Development in the project area has led to an increased need for accommodating traffic and pedestrians. Land use along Sleepy Hollow Drive includes residential, commercial, and recreational facilities, including a golf course. Additionally, West Teays Elementary School lies 0.1 mile to the west of the project. The existing roadway is narrow and has no sidewalks. The purpose of the project is to widen the roadway, reduce utility conflicts, and provide a sidewalk for an approximately 1.1-mile long portion of Sleepy Hollow Drive between its intersection with Cow Creek Road (CR 40) and Teays Valley Road (WV 34) in Hurricane, WV.

Preferred Alternative
The project includes widening Sleepy Hollow Drive to include two 9-foot wide travel lanes and a 5-foot wide sidewalk. Approximately 3.17 acres of permanent new right-of-way is required, and the construction cost will be approximately $4.9 million. No residential or business relocation is required.
