Our team at Houston High School have joined forces with our student Mustang Mentors to present a personalized experience on January 19th. We are offering eight informational sessions, and your child will go to a total of four sessions based on their specified level of interest indicated on this survey. Following the tour night, a video/virtual version of each session will be emailed to all attendees. So, you won't have to 'miss' anything! Please indicate your interest in each session.
School Tour: A twenty-minute overview about the layout of the school. Great for students who have little to no experience at the school or are completely unsure about their areas of interest.
Path to Post Secondary Planning: Did you know that Houston High School is an excellent partner for parents and students when applying for colleges? Learn more about the college application experience and why it's important to start planning now.
Career Pathway Scavenger Hunt: Students must choose an "elective pathway" at HHS in order to graduate. Learn more about some of HHS vibrant Career Technology electives by touring our Health Sciences Department, Television Studio, STEM Lab, Mechatronics Workshop and Horticulture Greenhouse. Also hear about Human Studies, Business/Communications, Criminal Justice, and more!
Beyond the Books: Student Life: Hear a brief overview of extra-curricular offerings at Houston High School and talk with current students about ways to plug into school culture.
Next Level Athletics: Learn about Houston's tradition of athletic excellence. Meet our coaches and learn what we do to help athletes be ready to play at the high school level and beyond.
New to GMSD: Don't attend at GMSD feeder school? Don't worry! This session will cover the transition to Houston High School including Open Enrollment procedures, Academy opportunities, new student registration and timelines.
Curriculum Overview: Vice Principal Bill Gillespie will lead a basic overview of the academic curriculum offered at Houston High School. Assisted by school counseling staff, Gillespie will also explain the course registration process and provide the framework for course selection.
Exploring the Fine Arts: Immerse yourself in the fine art offerings at Houston High. See artwork and performances by our talented HHS fine arts students as you visit the Fine Arts Wing of the school and meet with the fine arts faculty.
Student Support Services: Houston High School offers a wide range of services to our students with IEPs and 504s. Hear from our Exceptional Student Educators as well as administration and learn about everything from our Transition Academy to our co-teach support coursework offerings as well as support for 504 accommodations.
