PLEASE ONLY FILL IN THIS FORM IF YOU WANT TO SIGN UP FOR THIS COURSE. THIS COURSE IS A PAID COURSE AND COSTS R1000/PERSON.

The Marine Sciences Explorer course introduces students to some basic principles of oceanography, ecology and marine biology. This course covers topics such as life processes, classification, tides, salinity, the South African shoreline and marine ecosystems, introduction to marine vertebrates and differences between jawless, cartilaginous and bony fish. We will explore different marine ecosystems, such as estuaries and sandy shores, and the important roles these ecosystems play. We will also delve into some of the key species that live and rely on these ecosystems. Ever wondered whether a shark is a fish? This course will clear that up for you as our teachers will explain what bony, cartilaginous and jawless fish actually are.

The course highlights the diversity within the marine sciences field and is a great way to find out whether a marine career would be something to aspire to. Since Grade 9 is such an important year in terms of subject choices, we will also discuss which subjects are needed to study marine sciences at a tertiary level.

The course format is live interactive sessions with our teachers on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays, over two weeks. Since we are online, this course is open to anyone in the world, as long as you have access to the internet, and are able to Zoom into our live sessions. There will also be weekly assessments on our e-learning platform, and a certificate will be issued to all participants at the end of the course.
