Important Information
Thank you for your interest in the Caribbean Coast Delegation to Nicaragua, organized by the Friends of the ATC solidarity network. All interested individuals must complete a brief application by March 20th, 2023  to be considered for participation in the delegation.

This delegation will begin in the nation’s capital, Managua, in the Pacific Coast region of the country, and travel eastward by land on one of Nicaragua’s new highways that extends all the way to Bluefields on the Caribbean Sea. Along the way, the group first visit the Latin American Institute of Agroecology, a training center for students from throughout Mesoamerica and the Caribbean, led by the historic farmworker organization Asociación de Trabajadores del Campo and international peasant movement La Via Campesina. Upon entering the Southern Caribbean Coast Autonomous region, the delegation will visit with different afrodescendant and indigenous communities that are important groups in the Caribbean Coast autonomy process and Nicaraguan culture. The delegation will also witness examples of concrete gains in quality of life thanks to the processes of the Sandinista Popular Revolution in areas such as education, healthcare and women’s rights. 

Upon conclusion of the delegation in Bluefields, there will be an optional add-on to the beautiful island of Corn Island in the Caribbean Sea.

Important details:

When: June 17th – 27th 2023 (arrivals June 17th / departures June 27th). Optional two-day Corn Island add-on June 27th – 29th

Cost: Sliding scale, $1000-$1200 (does not include international travel costs to and from Nicaragua, nor optional Corn Island add-on). Limited scholarships available.

This delegation will be led by Friends of the ATC and other ally groups. 


TO APPLY, PLEASE SUBMIT THE FOLLOWING ITEMS:

1. This completed application form (you will receive a copy via email upon submitting the application).

2. Your exchange deposit. A deposit of $200 is due as part of your application and can be paid online at (https://afgj.salsalabs.org/fatc-delegations/index.html) or via check (full details below).

Applications must be received by the end of the day on March 20th, 2023 and applicants will receive notification about their participation the week following the deadline.

About the Caribbean Coast Delegation Cost: 
The full cost of the delegation is $1200. The $200 trip deposit is due with your application (March 20th, 2023) and the remaining amount ($1000) is due May 1st, 2023. The price includes all meals, lodging, in-country transportation, airport pick-up and delivery, translation, excursions, staff coordination, and a donation to the ATC. You are responsible for international airfare and personal expenses.

Payments are processed through the Friends of the ATC’s fiscal sponsor, the Alliance for Global Justice. You may either pay via check or online with a credit card. Payment is accepted online at (https://afgj.salsalabs.org/fatc-delegations/index.html). REMINDER: We recommend that you do not make flight reservations before you receive notice that you have been accepted as a participant and that the program is confirmed. If you are not accepted as a participant or decide before May 1st, 2023 that you cannot participate, your deposit can be refunded. If Friends of the ATC must cancel the brigade, your deposit also can be refunded.
