Sand Ridge Math Department Disclosure                     Mrs. Opheikens - Math 7
Materials
Students are expected to come to class everyday with:
-- CHARGED Chromebook
-- pencil
--lined paper or notebook
*We will use the Chromebook everyday, but it is also important in math to have paper and a pencil to work
problems out. Please bring them every day!!

NEW THIS YEAR:
--plug in earbuds to use with Chromebook
--calculator (nothing fancy, I like the TI-30XIIs or something similar, about $10 at Wal-mart or Amazon)
*if you are not able to get a calculator, I will have a few to use in class, but having your own will prevent the
      spread of germs!

How to succeed
All students have the ability to succeed in Math. It just requires a commitment to pay attention, make an effort on every assignment, ask questions, turn in work on time and re-do any assignment or test that has a low score. Most important of all: Never give up!

Assignments
Homework is how students communicate to the teacher their understanding of the concepts. This feedback from the students allows the teacher to plan if reteaching is needed or if the class is ready to move to the next section. For teachers to make this decision work must be turned in on time. Work that is turned in on time may be redone for full credit.

Late Work
Work that is turned in after the due date will receive a drop of 20%.

Extra Credit
Assignments are given to give the student practice with the important concepts of the Utah State Core Curriculum for mathematics. It is vital that students understand these concepts, so students must complete these assignments before they attempt extra credit. Teachers may allow students to do Aleks for extra credit but it will not exceed 2% of the final grade.

Grades
Grades will be given according to the following grading scale:

A+= 97-100%    A = 93-96%       A- = 90-92%
B+=86-89%       B = 83-85%       B- = 80-82%
C+=76-79%       C = 73-75%       C- = 70-72%
D+=66-69%       D = 63-65%       D- = 60-62%
F = Below 60%

These symbols are used for grading on progress reports:
A = Absent: Student was absent on this date.
AC = Accommodation: Due to individual situations the teacher assigned or graded this assignment with accommodations.
I = Incomplete: Assignment must be re-done as it was submitted but was not complete to the minimum required standards.
L = Late: The assignment was submitted after the due date.
M = Missing: The assignment has not been submitted for grading.
R = Redone: The student re-did the assignment.
X = Exempt: The student is not required to do assignment and it is not included in the final grade for that student.
Ch = Cheating: score is zero and cannot be made up. Cheating also affects the citizenship grade.

Citizenship
Citizenship grades reflect the students adherence to the rules, the effort put forth in the class, and the attitude of the student. According to school policy 1-2 rule infractions will earn the student an S (satisfactory) citizenship grade. 3-4 infractions will result in an N (needs improvement) and more than 4 infractions is a U (unacceptable). Cheating, truancies and safe school violations* will result in an automatic N or U as determined by instructor.

*Please note that Safe School Policy infractions will be immediately referred to the administration.

The most important rule for school is to show RESPECT to the teacher, other students. and yourself. The school rules are listed in the student folder received at registration, but here are a few to keep in mind:
• Be on time and in your seat with your materials, ready to work
• Keep your hands, feet, and objects to yourself. If it’s not yours don’t touch it.
• Follow instructions the first time they are given and don’t talk back or try to argue with the teacher.
• Do not leave your seat without permission.
• Do your own work and turn it in on time.
• No food or drinks except water are allowed. For some teachers this includes gum.
• Cell phones, airpods, make-up, toys or any other objects that distract from schoolwork are not allowed in class.
• No horseplay, hitting, throwing stuff at, or other physical contact with others (safe school infractions).
