Volunteer Position Information
Delivery/Sorting – Thursday.
Driver will drop the skids off at the back of St. Pius.  Volunteers are required to unload the skids and return them to the driver before they leave if possible. If there are not an adequate number of volunteers available to help, the driver may have to leave the skids and pick them up at the next delivery.
Position requirements: Volunteers in this position would ideally be able to lift and carry heavy items. This position also demands that volunteers possess excellent interpersonal and communication skills to allow everyone to contribute to the team.

Program Set-Up -Thursday
Shelves and/or tables will have to be stocked with product and organized in neat, easy to access and understand food categories (ex. bread and cereal, proteins). As well, boxes for the Swansea delivery will need to be prepacked.
Position requirements: Volunteers in this position require organizational skills as well as the ability to contribute to the team. Communication with intake on the estimated number of people coming to access the program is important so that the right number of boxes can be prepared or the right number of items for client selection can be made in relation to family size.

Food Distribution / Rationing - Friday
Volunteers will hand out food to clients whether you are providing them with a pre-pack or allowing them to choose their food. Daily Bread encourages agencies to utilize the distribution choice sheets as a guide in order to determine family food allotments. Before packing food allotments or bringing clients into the distribution area, volunteers should discuss any limited items in the inventory to determine who from the client base will receive limited items (i.e. first-come, first-served, only singles, only families etc.).
Position requirements: Volunteers in this position hold a lot of power and as such, must be sensitive to this factor when dealing with clients. Treating clients equitably and respectfully is required in this customer service position. Volunteers should have good communication and listening skills.

Runners / Waste Management
Runners are necessary throughout the program to move and re-stock products. If possible, these same volunteers can also keep on top of the recycling and waste build-up. At the end of the day, all available volunteers should assist with shutting down the food program space and ensuring the area is properly wiped down fully for Covid Safety
Position requirements: Volunteers in this position should be organized and able to work effectively with other team members.

Greeters / Line Management
These volunteers will be stationed outside the church to meet clients and when necessary, provide direction about the particulars of the program, as well as help to ensure social distancing occurs in the lineup.  This is often the first face the client will see when entering the program so it is important for volunteers in this particular position to be familiar with the program’s guidelines and operational methods.
Position requirements: Volunteers in this position should be friendly and welcoming. They must also be comfortable speaking to clients and giving direction. Knowledge of other languages spoken in the community is an asset.

Interviewer / Intake Processing
A very important role at the food bank is that of interviewer. All clients should be interviewed when coming to the food bank initially and have a regular check-in each and every visit. The purpose of the interview is not to determine but to find out why they are in need of this assistance and in turn be able to direct the client to someone providing additional support (information and referral, local social support programs). This position will be given specific training by Daily Bread
Position requirements: Volunteers in this position need to be excellent listeners and communicators. While interviewers must be firm at some points, they must always demonstrate empathy towards clients. It is also important for volunteers in this position to be aware of resources that may benefit a client should they qualify.

Driver – boxes to Swansea / Swansea Distribution
We require a driver with appropriate vehicle to take the boxes to Swansea – AND – will require support at the Swansea location, per Swansea team, to distribute boxes
