MENTORING OPPORTUNITIES
Here's a list of programs offered by the New Hill Hunter Education and Mentoring Program:
1. LEARN TO DEER HUNT WEBINARS
A free webinar series - available on-demand - designed to jump-start a new deer hunters hunting "career." Experienced hunters share practical, in-depth information on topics that a new hunter needs to know. Watch recordings on the NCWF YouTube Channel using the link above. Access to the Resource Library will also allow you to download print copies of each presentation and other useful tools,
A valuable resource offered to mentors and new hunters alike.
2. FALL HANDS-ON DEER PROCESSING EVENT
Open to new hunters who want to learn how to field dress, skin, quarter, and make the most of venison from deer donated by others for new hunter training.
3. NEW HILL HANDS-ON FIELD DAYS
A 4-part, hands-on, skill-building field-day series for new deer hunters, including also related extracurricular events and mentored hunting opportunity.
Learn:
- what it takes to become a successful hunter and how to prepare for the hunt
- how to evaluate wildlife habitat
- how to strategically scout promising hunting areas and select a quality hunting site
- how to use a variety of elevated stands, and more
Meet with
- NCWRC Enforcement to address your regulation questions; and
- an EMT to prepare for field emergencies.
Participate in
- roundtable discussion of hunting strategies that have proven to be effective
- local scouting events on public lands
- mentored hunts if deemed to be 'hunt ready' (you've purchased a weapon and practiced enough to make an ethical shot, and you've found a place and are equipped to hunt on your own after the mentored experience)
This field day series is open only to adults with very limited or no deer hunting experience who have no local friends/family to show them how. One participant per family. Applicants are asked to complete review of New Hill's Learn to Deer Hunt Webinar series, commit to participate in all four all-day Saturday field-days (which w be delivered near to New Hill, NC, southwest of Raleigh); be hunt-ready before fall (weapon ready and hunt sites selected); and agree to hunt at least twice on their own. Students who demonstrate hunt readiness will be offered a mentored hunting experience as part of this program.

Are you an experienced mentor wanting to each a new hunter? We can help! Experienced hunters who would like to volunteer as mentors for this program are encouraged to reach out to us.
- We rely on local hunters to provide legally harvested deer in late October/early November and again on the day before annual deer processing events. Let us know you are interested in donating deer.
- Let us know below if you are willing to host a new hunter who has completed training but now needs field experience
- Let us know if you are passionate about teaching new hunters and would like to be actively involved in program delivery.
