Application for Membership in the National Cartoonists Society
Since its founding at the end of World War II, membership in the National Cartoonists Society has meant
acceptance into the world’s premier professional cartoonists’ organization. The NCS is not a guild.
It is a fraternal organization that celebrates, promotes, and advances the various cartooning arts.

Cartoonists applying for membership in the National Cartoonists Society should choose one of the membership tiers that best fits their cartooning career:
     • REGULAR
             Professional: Career cartoonist.
             Semi-Professional: Earning your living both from cartooning and another career.
     • ASSOCIATE: Not yet professional, but actively working as a cartoonist.
     • ASSOCIATE 27 CLUB: 27 years-old or younger, with some commercial cartooning success to show.

Non-Cartoonists may apply to the NCS as a:
     •TRADE MEMBER: Working in a closely allied field, i.e. writing, publishing, syndication, editing.

APPLICANTS FOR MEMBERSHIP SHOULD PRESENT THE FOLLOWING:

1. An NCS application form, filled out completely.  If you wish, you may include a one paragraph
career biography, and up to two letters of recommendation* from NCS members in good standing.
The Membership Committee will be provided all relevant information from these, and cartoonists
providing recommendation may be contacted for further information.

2. Up to six URLs of your work, showing cartoons clearly attributed to you, that are readily available to the public. If you wish, you may also include URLs to relevant articles about your cartooning career.  These will be provided to the Membership Committee to review before voting.

3. If you cannot provide URLs to your work but wish to instead offer printed materials, include them
along with a printout of your application materials to the Membership Chairman at the address
provided on the application form. Printed materials will not be returned unless packaging and postal
fees are provided by the applicant.

Applicants are admitted for membership when accepted by unanimous vote by the Membership Committee.
The Chairman of the Membership Committee will notify the new members of their admission to the NCS.

Misrepresentation on an application, or non-compliance with either membership requirements or NCS By-Laws or Procedures will automatically invalidate an application and/or membership.  Such determination can be made by the Membership Committee, Board of Directors, and Ethics Committee, and must be by a majority vote.

Please note: The Membership committee may recommend a different membership tier after reviewing your application.
