Street banners have been found to benefit the downtown area by adding color, excitement, character, and in creating a sense of place. The Downtown Evanston organization has implemented the banner program to benefit the downtown while also calling attention to the healthy mix of businesses and services as well as the overall district.

New Brand
Downtown Evanston worked with a variety of stakeholder to help us create our new brand, logo and tagline. After many meetings, focus groups and hours, we are thrilled with the new brand, created to be current, confident and community focused. Connection and belonging with a bold approach for the future of downtown is at the heart of this brand.

The tagline is a concise and memorable snapshot of the brand. Your town. Downtown.

The Downtown Evanston tagline was designed to be flexible to include and highlight special interest areas and help us tailor messaging to specific target audiences. If you choose to purchase the double banners available in specific areas (Fountain Square and Gateway), we can cater that messaging to fit your brand.

Design, Size & Material
All banners are 30” x 72” and are made of 20oz. vinyl, with pole pockets and grommets on top and
bottom, and are two sided. The same design will appear on each side.

This year, the banners will have the new Downtown Evanston brand – logo and colors – and will feature business names instead of logos. While we have printed logos in the past, we decided to have business names to create a consistent look throughout downtown.

Pole Locations
Banners will be located within the Downtown Evanston SSA #9, bordered by Emerson St., Hinman Ave., Lake St. and Oak Ave. See the attached map for specific pole location numbers. Banners will be placed on the taller streetlamp poles, depending on availability. Please note that the banners with the red line are reserved for Downtown Evanston Gateway banner pairs to welcome people into downtown.

While banner placement is first come first serve, we cannot guarantee a specific banner location.
Downtown Evanston will make every effort to have your banner placed in the location that you have
chosen, or the nearest available pole.

This year there are two versions of the banner designs for East-West streets and for North-South avenues. Please note the color when you are selecting the banner location(s).

• East-West:  Teal/Light Blue (Church, Davis, Clark, Grove, University Place)
• North-South: Purple/Light Blue (Oak, Maple, Sherman, Orrington, Chicago)
 
Costs
The cost for each banner is $150, a $50 reduction from the pre-Covid rate because we are not including logos.
The banners with the blue circle cost $200 due to higher visibility at Fountain Square which will will have a pair of banners as shown in the images below.
