MHS Actor/Staff Application (July-September)
It is recommended that this application be completed at a computer.

This application serves 2 purposes.  The first part is to provide additional information about Mohican Haunted Schoolhouse and actor/staff expectations and ensure that you are both on-board with our general approach and structure.  If at any point it turns out you don't think this is the experience you are looking for, no worries, just click the box asking to no longer be contacted (about halfway through the survey).

The second part of the application will cover specific roles, days of operation, compensation, etc.  Upon completion, if it seems like a good fit, you will be invited to an in-person interview.  Thanks again for your interest in Mohican Haunted Schoolhouse!

We're curious where interested actors & staff are located!
Do you have prior haunt experience? If so, where? What positions or roles have you served in?
*
Prior haunt experience is not required, but if you have it, we'd love to hear about it!
Why are you interested in being an actor/staff member at Mohican Haunted Schoolhouse this fall?
*
What Kind of Haunt Are We?
WE ARE A SCARY HAUNT! A primary goal of Mohican Haunted Schoolhouse is to scare customers. In terms of expected content, we are on par with a 70s/80s horror movie 'R' rating; expect at least some scenery and gore similar to that seen in Texas Chainsaw Massacre, Friday the 13th, Nightmare on Elm Street, the Exorcist, The Evil Dead, and comparable films. We do not have an age limit; we believe it is important for parents to determine what content is appropriate for their children. That being said, children 12 or younger MUST be accompanied by an adult (13+ do not need an adult).

HOWEVER
We are NOT an 'Extreme' haunt.  'Extreme' haunts incorporate elements like touching/grabbing customers, throwing blood/slime on customers, and potentially profanity and/or more targeted/provoking language.  If this is the sort of haunt you are looking for, MHS is not a good fit.

*
Given the details above, do you believe Mohican Haunted Schoolhouse is a good fit for you?  Do you have any concerns?  If so, please explain:
We are seeking RESPECTFUL individuals who are capable of putting aside differences in order to celebrate Halloween and bring a frightening, quality experience to EVERY customer that comes into our doors.

What this means: ALL actors and staff must treat each other with respect regardless of age, gender, race/ethnicity, ability/disability, etc...you get it.  Haunts that don't have good staff cohesion tend not to provide a good product. You don't have to be best friends, but you DO need to get along.

Causing drama, being toxic, and/or leaving disparaging remarks towards actors/staff or Mohican Haunted Schoolhouse itself, whether in-person or online, are grounds for dismissal. NO INSULTING/BASHING OTHER HAUNTS.

The same standard applies towards customers.  Even if you disagree with a t-shirt slogan or something you hear in conversation, your focus needs to be on providing a good scare and overall experience.

Scares, dialogue, and performances are NOT to include anything remotely political (ex. No commentaries on Trump/Biden) or tied to current events and/or disasters (ex. No takes on Covid, Covid vaccines, shootings, hurricanes, etc.); there are other haunts that opt to be more provocative/incendiary (and that's their choice), but we are not one of them.

*
Do you believe you will be able to comply with these expectations?
Physical Expectations: Shifts can be physically demanding! For most actor/staff roles, you should expect to be on your feet the majority of your shift with lots of energy required for waving, shouting, stalking, etc. As a result, it is expected that you are well-rested and prepared for your shift. Showing up intoxicated or inebriated IS NOT ALLOWED and is cause for dismissal.

Various haunt zones may have: Loudness, Extreme Darkness, Extreme Brightness, Flickering/Strobe Lights, Fog, and/or other disorienting features and effects. Depending on the seasonal weather and time of the night, some zones may be hotter, colder, or wet (for actors in our outdoor area).  Some haunt zones require actors to be more mobile or be physical in different ways than others.

Seats are typically available (to be used only when there are slowdowns) for periodic resting. Bottled water/drinks and snacks are provided to keep you hydrated and refreshed.

*
Do you believe you will be able to fulfill the physical requirements of an actor/staff role?  Are there any special considerations that you want us to take into account? We cannot promise we will be able to accommodate all requests, but we will try!
Behavioral Expectations: Actors and staff are expected to be able to keep cool, calm, and collected even in higher intensity situations.  While the vast majority of customers are happy, fun, and generally easy to work with, unfortunately you do get a small handful of folks that are annoying, confrontational, difficult, or otherwise atypical to deal with.

UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCES ARE YOU TO EVER ESCALATE THE SITUATION.  You are to let rude and/or insulting customers pass; don't waste your time/energy on them and, instead, move on to customers that are more appreciative.  As for customers who vandalize/steal property or shove/touch actors, we have a deputy on-site at all times who can be called in.  THEY ARE PAID TO HANDLE THESE SITUATIONS; YOU ARE NOT.

*
Note: Specific policies/protocols for dealing with difficult customers will be covered at an in-person training if you are chosen for an actor/staff role. Do you believe you will be able to comply with the expectations above? Do you have any concerns? If so, explain:

*

All actors/staff are subject to background checks prior to working a shift at Mohican Haunted Schoolhouse.
