Ethnic Studies Education and Health
Professor Nancy López, PhD from the Sociology Department and Professor Shiv Desai, PhD Teacher Education, Educational Leadership and Policy Department (TEELP) at the University of New Mexico (UNM) are conducting a research study on ethnic studies education and health. The purpose of the research is to better understand student experiences in ethnic studies classes in high school. You are being asked to participate in this study because you are currently taking or have previously taken an ethnic studies class in high school (e.g., Native American Studies, Chicana/o Studies, Mexican American Studies, Africana/African American Studies, Human Rights, etc.) between 2010-present .

The study consists of participating in an individual and/or group interview. You can elect to participate in one or more of these study activities (e.g., you can do the group interviews but you don’t have to participate in-depth individual interviews, etc.). The focus groups and in-depth interviews may take about two hours. Interviews will be done virtually or in person. Individual interviews and focus groups will be audio or video recorded (via zoom). We are able to offer a $25 gift card as a token of our appreciation for the in-depth interview and/or focus group.

Please answer the questions below so that you are able to participate.
