About Justice50
As part of the Ithaca Green New Deal (IGND) the City has committed to reducing social, historical and economic inequalities in our city. The main framework for the City to achieve this is Justice50 - which has not yet been brought to Common Council or accepted by the City - but that Sunrise Ithaca is pushing the City to make progress on.

Justice50 requires the City to invest at least 50% of its funding for the IGND in so-called Climate Justice Communities (CJCs) which are disenfranchised communities and households in Ithaca that will be most greatly affected by climate change.

It also includes a call for participatory budgeting - meaning that the people of Ithaca (including non-U.S. citizens and possibly more youth) are more greatly involved in deciding what the City's budget goes to through an additional, direct voting process.

The IGND involves the creation of many so-called "green jobs", jobs which contribute to the decarbonizing of our city. Justice50 would make sure that at least 40% of these jobs go to CJCs.
