ROLLER SKATING FUNdamentals - August 2022
This 5-week session will run from Tuesday, August 2 through Tuesday, August 30.

These classes are for children 12 and under. Classes are 45 minutes long and will be held in two blocks.

Learn to Skate: (4 to 4:45 pm) ** THIS SESSION IS FULL FOR AUGUST - PLEASE TICK 'ADD ME TO THE WAITLIST' BELOW** For those who are newer to skating, require help maintaining balance, aren't confident in their ability to come to an unassisted stop (ie. not using a wall or rolling into grass, etc)

Skating Fun and Games: (5 to 5:45 pm) For those who are able to propel themselves and come to an unassisted stop.

Roller skating skills taught in a fun and relaxed environment. We keep class sizes small, use games and other non-competitive activities to help build confidence on skates.

While safety equipment isn't required for our indoor classes, it can really help with confidence and a sense of security, especially for beginners. The skating instructor will be wearing knee pads and wrist guards. If you don't have your own safety gear, we have some available for hire.

About your trainers:
Kirsten Slade has been roller skating for over 40 years. As a teenager, she was a competitive speed skater. While living in Austin Texas, Kirsten learned how to play roller derby with the women who invented the modern sport of flat-track roller derby, Texas Rollergirls (TXRG). In addition to playing flat- and banked-track roller derby, Kirsten managed TXRG’s recreational roller derby program and was a trainer for TXRG's Junior Derby program. Now retired from roller derby, Kirsten is on the coaching staff for Let's Roll Coaching, Kapiti Coast Derby Collective, and co-owns Seaside Skates. Kirsten loves sharing her passion for skating with others and especially enjoys working with beginners.

Kirsten is ably joined by our junior trainer, Maddie, a college student who loves skating and working with children. In addition to helping out with skating lessons, Maddie works at the skate shop after school and on weekends, helping with everything from checking in stock, packing online orders, refurbishing skates and helping with our product photos for social media and our website. We're sure your children will love having her assist with their skating progress.
