WHAT IS A TURNCOAT DEBATE?

Turncoat debate is that form of debate where an individual presents arguments from both the sides i.e. for the motion and against the motion. In this format of debating, participant debates against oneself. The speaker takes a particular stance on the given topic and then changes it after a specific duration of time. Extra time is given to participant to conclude or summarize all the arguments.

RULES AND REGULATIONS FOR ONLINE TURNCOAT DEBATE COMPETITION

1. Individual participation is allowed
2. Each speaker will get 1.5 minutes to speak for the motion, 1.5 minutes to speak against the motion and 1 minute to conclude.
3. The participant can either speak in English or Hindi. Switching the medium of language while speaking is strictly prohibited.
4. Reading from paper/device will entail negative points for the participants.
5. Penalty will apply if a participant exceeds the time limit.
6. Cameras must be switched on while a participant is speaking, Mics must be unmuted only when an individual is asked to do so.
7. The decision of judge will be final and binding to all participants. Judge may question the participants after the end of their debate.
8. Use of foul language is strictly prohibited.
9. Certificates of Merit will be awarded to top 3 speakers in a digital format. All other participants will receive participation certificate in a digital format.
10. Cross questioning by other fellow participants is not allowed.

JUDGEMENT CRITERIA

1. Relevance of content (10 marks)
2. Research on topic (10 marks)
3. Vocabulary & Language (10 marks)
4. Presentation skills (10 marks)
5. Ability to articulate arguments from both sides and conclude (10 marks)
