Keynote Speakers:
Jim McKenzie - Jim is the Founder & President, Education Solutions and former Head of School, The Rock School, Gainesville, Florida.  His experiences are in coaching, training, and consulting with Christian schools across North America in the areas of marketing and enrollment. He is a motivational speaker and consultant and has done workshops at numerous schools and conferences including the International Reading Conference, the American Educational Research Conference, and the League of Christian Schools National Conference.  He has published work in The Elementary School Journal and Teachers of Vision and authored the Environmental Science standards for the National Boy Scouts Association.  He was a finalist for SECME's National Teacher of the Year Award for his work in developing a science program aimed at reaching minority students.

Michael Smith, Attorney, The Fowler Law Firm - Michael is a member of Redeemer Lutheran Church and has served as their School Board Chairman.  He is licensed to practice before all Texas state courts as well as the Federal District Courts for the Western, Northern, Eastern and Southern Districts of Texas and the Eastern District of Michigan. Michael is also admitted to practice before the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit and is a registered Patent Attorney with the United States Patent and Trademark Office.

As a firm that represents a number of schools (primarily public, but also private) across the state of Texas, he is happy to assist any of our Lutheran schools with their legal needs.  Michael and his firm prides themselves on becoming connected with their clients and really working to understand your unique school and issues and acting as a trusted adviser.  As the legal landscape continues to change, the challenges facing private schools multiply and become more varied in scope. 

Laura Colangelo- is the Executive Director of the Texas Private Schools Association, an advocacy organization representing the over 800 private, accredited, non-profit schools in Texas in the state legislature and in DC.  In this role, she is the “public voice for private schools in Texas.” Laura is also the Executive Director of the Texas Private Schools Accreditation Commission where she oversees the 15 accrediting commissions that accredit private schools in Texas. She is active in the Council for American Private Education. She really understands the whole legislative process and politics in Texas. Laura has forged valuable relationships and alliances with numerous Senators and Representatives.  Laura Colangelo is a very valuable ally to the mission of Private Schools in the State of Texas and to the mission of our Lutheran Schools. She gets it. Laura is a former Head of School of an Episcopal School.
