The following are volunteer opportunities we have available. Please check all that interest you. *

Option 1: Raised Bed Builder. Task: Construct 4x8 ft garden beds, Time: Average 1 hour per bed, Dates: As needed, Skills needed: Basic Carpentry. Able to use power tools and read and interpret garden plans.

Option 2: Garden Tender. Task: Water and tend garden on a regular basis, Time: 2-4 hours per week (flexible), Dates: Spring, Summer, Fall, Skills needed: Basic garden knowledge, when and how much to water, what plants are weeds, when produce is ripe for picking.

Option 3: Garden Class Support. Task: Support The Edible Classroom Educators with hands-on garden instruction with students, Time: During school hours 1 morning or afternoon a week. 8 weeks in the Fall and 8 weeks in the Spring, Dates: Late March-early June and September-early November, Skills needed: Ability to work with children in an outdoor setting and have basic gardening skills/knowledge. Clearances required.

Option 4: Summer Program Support. Task: Support The Edible Classroom Garden Educators during the camp day with garden and cooking activities with elementary aged children, Time: Morning and afternoon slots available for summer program support, Dates: June-August, Skills needed: Ability to work with children in an outdoor setting. Clearances required.

Option 5: Pick-up Truck Driver. Task: Pick up supplies (lumber, compost, etc.), Time: 1-2 hours per delivery, Dates: Late Fall (compost), Spring (manure), as needed throughout the year for lumber, Skills needed: Driver's license, own or have access to a truck, willing to pick up and deliver supplies to schools as needed.

Option 6: Compost Team. Task: Spread leaf/manure compost over school gardens with The Edible Classroom team support, Time: 3-4 hours at a time, Dates: Late Fall and Spring, Skills Needed: Ability to lift buckets of compost, shovel compost and spread on outdoor garden beds.

Option 7: Lunch Time Compost Collection. Task: Be available during the lunch hour to facilitate students gathering compostable materials from the lunchroom. Support students taking the collected materials to the compost bin, Time: 1-2 hours, Dates: Monday-Friday when school is in session, Skills Needed: Ability to walk to and from compost bin, give clear instructions to students. Clearances required.

Option 8: Garden Sign Creator. Task: Paint and label wooden garden signs to identify garden vegetables, Time: Dependent on how many signs are needed, Dates: As needed for new gardens, Skills Needed: Artistic ability

Option 9: Special Events. Task: Support 1-time events to assist with set up or tear down and simple garden-related activities, Time: 2-3 hours at a time, Dates: Spring-Fall
