Collaborate - case-based mentoring scheme
Thank you very much for your interest in volunteering as a mentor.

Advocate wants to ensure that all junior barristers (or more experienced barristers looking to pivot into a different area of law, or returning from time away from practice) are adequately supported when working on pro bono cases.

Many senior barristers registered to the Advocate panel want to give back, however our case list does not always match their expertise. Mentoring not only has the potential to add immense value to the mentee but can offer the personal satisfaction of helping someone and other career benefits such as providing evidence of leadership for a KC application form.

We are looking forward to working with you!

Advocate will ensure that each mentor is supporting no more than one individual in a month.  Please tell us if you would like to mentor less regularly than this.
Please tell us if you have any other requirements we should be aware of.
Unless you choose to work directly on the case alongside your mentee, your role as an Advocate mentor is purely to offer general advice on issues, procedural rules and practical advice related solely to the Advocate case that the mentee is working on. At no point would you form a barrister/client relationship. Mentors do not give legal advice. Mentors will not be expected to carry out drafting or have client contact unless they have opted to be co-counsel as in option 2 above. *
It is the job of both the mentee and the mentor to decide on the best time to have a conversation. Mentors should be clear from the outset how much time they are able to give to supporting on the case. *
Any final comments. Thank you!
