The CPI Program was created in 2010 to provide meaningful professional experience to ISU students through internship opportunities. Studies have shown that students who participate in internships become more effective employees, acquire valuable transferable skills, have higher job placement rates, and earn higher wages than their peers. The CPI Program helps students connect with internships that will enhance their academic and professional careers including internships based in local organizations.
What are the requirements?- Internships must relate directly to the student’s academic or career goals.
- Internships must take place in person, in a professional workplace.
- Students must be at least part-time students at Idaho State University and be in good academic standing.
- The CPI Liability Agreement for Off-Site Work must be completed and a certificate of insurance must be submitted to the CPI Office before the internship can begin.*
- Students must submit hosting-site-supervisor-approved time sheets to their ISU supervisor as well as submit their hours on MyISU (ISU's payroll system) biweekly.
- The hosting-site supervisor must be a professional with expertise and educational and/or professional background in the internship’s subject matter.
- Regular contact must occur between the hosting-site supervisor, the ISU supervisor, and the student to ensure the student is receiving a quality internship experience.
*Local, county, state, and federal agencies must complete a memorandum of understanding in lieu of the CPI Liability Agreement for Off-Site Work.
What are the wages?
ISU and the CPI program provide the base wages for interns:
- Undergraduate: $13/hour
- Graduate: $15/hour
- Doctorate: $17/hour
Hosting organizations are allowed and encouraged to supplement wages. Supplementing wages must be run through the hosting organizations payroll systems.
The CPI program does not guarantee that money or students will be available for every organization that completes an application.
You will be contacted by CPI staff within a few days of submitting your application to set up an initial meeting with the off-campus organization to ensure all parties understand the expectations involved in participating in the CPI program.
