Waking the Village operates three housing programs. Often we have a wait list so this is the place to begin! We will call back with resources and advice on how to best navigate Sacramento's housing options. We know it can be confusing to know which programs have openings and which you are eligible for!

Our housing programs:

The Village Shelter:
The Village is our short-term shelter.  Eligible shelter participants are young parents and pregnant women and/or expectant couples between the ages of 18 and 24 who are experiencing homelessness and/or attempting to flee intimate partner violence.

Transitional Housing Programs:

Tubman House: Tubman House serves young parents and pregnant women and/or expectant couples experiencing homelessness that are survivors of crime. If you are between 18 and 24, homeless, and pregnant or parenting, you are eligible for housing with Tubman.

You may not think of yourself as a survivor of crime, but if you have experienced childhood neglect, abuse, assault, hate crimes, gang violence, robbery, or domestic violence, you are a survivor. If you are a survivor of sex or work trafficking or if you were commercially sexually exploited, you are a survivor.

Tubman House is a transitional program and residents share a house with a live in House Director and work daily with coaches to reach their goals.

Audre's Emporium of New Tomorrows: Audre's serves young adults from the LGBTQ+ community between the ages of 18 and 21. If you enter before your 22nd birthday, you will be eligible to stay up to 18 months. Audre's is a transitional program and residents share a house with a live in House Director and work daily with coaches to reach their goals.

Sylvia's:  Opening in March 2024, serves young adults from the LGBTQ+ community between the ages of 18 and 24. If you enter before your 22nd birthday, you will be eligible to stay up to 18 months. Audre's is a transitional program and residents share a house with a live in House Director and work daily with coaches to reach their goals.

Current Housing
The following questions us find the programs you are eligible for. It's important to know that many of Sacramento's housing programs require applicants to meet a strict definition of homelessness. To get in these programs, applicants must be in shelters or sleeping on the streets or in a place not intended for habitation (like a car). In fact, getting into a shelter can be a first step in securing long term affordable housing. There are some programs that can serve you if you are couch bouncing or trapped in a bad situation. Often it is best to share that you are homeless or unstably housed. We can learn more from you on the phone and ensure you are explaining your current situation in a way that ensures you are eligible for the most possible housing programs.
What is your current living situation? *
How long have you been experiencing homelessness? *
In the last 3 years, how many episodes of homelessness have you experienced? An episode of homelessness is a separate, distinct, and sustained stay on the streets (or in a car) and/or in a homeless emergency shelter. *
If applicable, please list any other housing programs/shelters you have received services from.
