Equality in Education Scholarship

Summary: The Equality in Education Scholarships are an opportunity to recognize and support the historically marginalized members of the LGBTQ+ community  in accessing higher education to achieve their goals. As the granters of this scholarship, Equality Loudoun believes that higher education benefits society by lifting up a diverse and inclusive group of educated voices to become 21st century leaders.


Disbursement: In 2024, Equality Loudoun has determined the goal for total scholarship awards shall be set at $10,000. The awards shall be selected based on need and no set amount is guaranteed for any recipient. Award amounts are set in increments of $1,000 and $2,500.


Selection: The selection shall be based upon a numerical scoring of applicant responses, as determined by our Selection Committee. Applicant qualities used in selection include the applicant’s impact on the community, desire to generate positive change, recognition of hardship, intersectionality, financial needs, and community involvement. Awardees shall be announced at the Loudoun Pride Festival.


Eligibility: To determine eligibility, please acknowledge you meet the following criteria -

  • In your last two years at a private, public, or homeschooling program based in Loudoun County or in your first two years of higher education with a residential address in Loudoun County.

  • 18 years or older or applying with permission of your parent(s) or guardian(s).

  • A member of the LGBTQ+ community or the child of an LGBTQ+ individual.

  • Seeking to continue education through vocational training, secondary education, formal college, and/or other certification program.

Awarding: If you are selected as the recipient, you must determine if the award shall be made to you directly or to the educational institution directly. If paid to you directly, you shall be responsible for potentially reporting the award as income or in compliance with applicable federal, state, and local laws. Upon notification of award, you must provide awarding information within 90 days otherwise your award may be forfeit.

Any falsification on this submission shall result in disqualification.  In the event I am not selected as a scholarship recipient, I agree that I shall pursue no recourse. No matter what, I agree that I shall continue to try to improve the world.
