Salvage Culture is a project of Mullum Cares Incorporated. Our purpose is to increase conscious consumption in the Northern Rivers by supporting and promoting local makers, repairers and upcyclers resulting in increased income for locals and less waste to landfill. It's time for a local Circular Economy Revolution!
Our Library of Stuff project (
libraryofstuff.org.au) exists to support our community to reduce waste by sharing goods like camping equipment, board games and power tools and we have begun expanding the inventory to include machinery that will assist experienced artisans and repairers as well as beginner makers and menders. For textiles we have 4 new heavy duty Singer sewing machines and an overlocker which will be available to book for use at our location in the Mullum Scout Hall after Covid restrictions are lifted.
We have started our Make & Mend - Textile Sessions. These are simply two hour sessions on Saturday mornings where we set up all our machines and accessories and invite community to bring along any textile projects they need help with. We pay a Master Maker to be on hand with the assistance of a volunteer or two. Unfortunately these are on hold until Covid restrictions are lifted.
Whether you already make a small or large income from doing repairs or selling hand made products or have just been tinkering up until now, if you'd like to get involved in a grass roots, reduce, reuse, repurpose initiative we'd love to keep you up to date on the projects activities and invite you to get involved. We are trialling a space at Made in Mullum between now and Christmas so if you have stock that is either majority made from waste OR it's function is to save waste then please ensure you get in touch asap as the weeks will fly by!
Please forward this to any and all makers and menders you know in the Northern Rivers and copy this link into a new tab to sign up for updates:
