What’s The Difference? Poetry Recitation vs Performance Poetry
The University of Arizona Poetry Center is thrilled to host Arizona's 2023-2024 Poetry Out Loud (POL) program on behalf of the Arizona Commission on the Arts, The National Endowment for the Arts and Poetry Foundation.

On Saturday, January 6, 2024, 11am-1pm (MST), POL Coach and Educator, Teré Fowler Chapman, will offer a virtual workshop, What’s The Difference? Poetry Recitation vs Performance Poetry, in support of POL students and educators throughout Arizona. Please see the description below for additional information.

"In this two-hour workshop, we will explore different performance poetry styles (such as slam poetry and spoken word) to empower participants to hone their recitation skills for Poetry Out Loud. During our time together, we will examine various poetry performances and practice analyzing their styles deeply in the following areas: articulation, body language, overall poem interpretation, and voice. Through these performance analyses, tips, and discussions, participants can use this time as a source of inspiration to strengthen their poetry recitation performances for the Poetry Out Loud competition!"

Space is limited to 25 participants with priority given to POL students. If you're interested in attending, please fill out the registration form below and click submit. (A Zoom link and password will be provided once registration is complete.) Questions? Email AZ POL State Coordinator, Gema Ornelas at gornelas@arizona.edu.
