You are cordially invited to attend LILAC’s 2022 Winter Professional Development and Networking Event. This year, we are pleased to offer the workshop “
with Kate Cordes. In addition to this professional development workshop, last year’s LILAC mini-grant winners will present their programs which the mini-grants have supported.
New York State’s Next Generation ELA Standards require students to analyze tone and mood in literature and nonfiction and to convey tone in their own writing. Honors and AP English coursework frequently asks students to do likewise. However, research shows that even adults struggle to identify anything beyond basic emotions as they experience them. As a result, ELA classrooms present powerful opportunities to help students understand themselves better as they explore the emotions of the speakers and characters they encounter as they read. Join our workshop presenter,
Kate Cordes, to learn how to cultivate students’ intentional awareness of the complex and often contradictory nature of emotions and their influence on the human experience, and return to your classroom with ideas and resources you can use on Monday.
Kate Cordes is a National Board-certified English teacher with more than twenty years of experience in the secondary English Language Arts classroom. She currently teaches tenth-grade Honors English and AP® English Literature at Skyview High School in Billings, Montana, where she has also taught dual enrollment college writing and AP® English Language.
