Thank you for agreeing to be a regular volunteer at Willow Oak Montessori! Your assistance helps our teachers gain valuable planning time and allows them to return to the classroom better prepared and refreshed. Because you will be working with students, we ask that you comply with a few basic guidelines and rules to safeguard privacy, ensure safety, and maintain our school culture.

Of course! My lips are zipped about anything I learn about students that could possibly be construed as private, including but not limited to health issues, IEPs, services received, learning styles, behavior challenges, etc. I understand that this also means no taking of photographs of children while volunteering.

Is it okay if I share private details with just my kids or my closest WOM friends?

I agree to speak in a calm and respectful manner to all students and staff. *

Yes! Even if a student is dysregulated or upset, I will maintain calm and behave in a respectful manner. I know I can use the phone or walkie-talkies to call for assistance if I need it.

I have a very hard time maintaining my temper when children are upset or not following rules.

I understand that safety is paramount, especially when the class is at recess or outdoors. *

Yep! I will always take the Red Bag and the walkie-talkie when taking a class outdoors and move about the space to see the kids from a variety of angles. I will report any injuries to the teacher and report head or neck injuries or anything else serious to the main office immediately.

If I see kids doing something clearly dangerous, I'll assume that it is fine and look the other way.

I will review emergency procedures with the teacher so I know what to do in case of a fire or other emergency. *

Of course! Even though an emergency is unlikely, I need to be prepared.

I'm sure I can figure out what to do without any guidance.

I understand that I should not touch, hug, grab, or shake any children under any circumstance. *
