As part of the Ithaca Carbon Neutrality project at Cornell University, we are trying to set up a procedure by which volunteers can better understand how well-insulated their homes are. This survey is preliminary and nonbinding - we just want to get a better idea of who might be interested in participating in such a project.

To complete the procedure, we would have temperature sensors that you would place inside and outside your home. We would also ask you to fill out information regarding the number of stories, doors, windows, etc (all of said information would be completely private). You would then turn you heating off every night for a period of approximately two weeks. Based on the temperature data collected, we will try to calculate a "thermal mass" for you house, which is an indicator of how well-insulated the house is.
