LoveLace
LoveLace is Chagall’s new lab where female and gender non-conforming performers can discover technology, explore its potential in the arts and learn how to play and create with it. LoveLace’s mission is to create a safe space where these artists can learn from and with each other and feel empowered to start augmenting their live shows with the latest technology.

LoveLace will also be The Netherland’s first production house for female-lead live projects that use technological innovation for creative expression. LoveLace’s ambition is to support about four productions per year, starting from 2024/2025. In 2023/2024 Lovelace’s activity will start with a series of workshops, hosted by De Effenaar Labs.

The goal of the workshop is that participants feel that there is a lot that they can do themselves. Everything starts with a good idea and some patience to learn. You can do so much more than you might think right now. You really don’t need a big and expensive technical team to create an awesome show!
What will you learn?
During this workshop our focus will be on creating reactive visuals. Reactive visuals refer to visual elements that respond to either your music (sounds, vocals, live instruments) or your movements (or both!). This allows you to ensure that the visuals you project during your live show or use on your social media platforms are completely in sync with the music you create. Since you will design these visuals yourself, they will be a reflection of your creativity and vision, just like your music!
Who?
  • Female and gender non-conforming musicians and live performers who want to enrich their live shows with innovative visual elements such as projection and lighting.
  • You can be a beginner in the tech field, but you have a strong idea about your musical identity.
  • You are able to bring one or more original songs that we can work with during the workshops
  • You are able to bring original imagery, video material or logo
  • We will work in a small group of about 8 participants and 2 teachers (Chagall & Max D Lahr, TD expert)
Tools
  • Audio: the DAW you are most comfortable in (Ableton Live has the easiest integration)
  • Visuals: Touch Designer, a very versatile and amazing application that you can try for free.
  • We will have a few different types of motion controllers available and you can (should!) bring your own if you already own one.
  • All selected participants will receive a more detailed list of things to bring and prepare nearer the time.
