OWL Interest Form

**Please feel free to post, share, email this interest form with any other families you feel could benefit from this program.**

The Unitarian Universalist Church of the Monterey Peninsula (UUCMP) hopes to meet your family's sexuality education needs in the coming year.
For the fall /spring of 2023/2024, our focus is on Middle School (7th and 8th graders) OWL classes that will take place over 25 sessions and Tweens (5th and 6th graders) OWL classes that will take place over 10 sessions. Interest for middle school and 5th/6th grade youth needs to be filed by Sunday, September 3.

Our Whole Lives (O.W.L.) is a comprehensive, secular lifespan sexuality education curriculum built with interactive workshops and lessons to engage participants. With a holistic approach, Our Whole Lives provides accurate, developmentally appropriate information about a range of topics, including relationships, identity, types of consent, sexual health, and cultural influences on sexuality. For more background information, visit the following website: https://www.uua.org/re/owl

Classes will start on Sunday, September 10th and take place from noon-1:15pm (5/6th grade) and noon-1:45 (7/8th grade) at UUCMP (490 Aguajito Rd. in Carmel, near CHOMP). OWL for 5th & 6th graders consists of 10 weekly sessions and Grades 7th - & 8th-grade OWL has 25 weekly sessions. (We will send you a detailed schedule after you complete this form.)

First, we are offering two informational sessions for curious parents and caregivers who want to know more about our OWL programs before enrolling. These will be hybrid meetings (in person and by Zoom) held on
Monday, August 28 at 7 PM (https://uuma.zoom.us/j/9132875635) and
Saturday, September 2, at 4 PM (https://zoom.us/j/98080138802).
Please spread the word to your friends!

Mandatory parent/guardian orientation sessions for the 7th- & 8th-grade program will be held in person at UUCMP. These meetings are for parents/guardians only and will be Tuesday, September 5, at 7:00-8:30 PM or Saturday, September 9, 4:00-5:30 PM. (You only need to attend one of these orientations.) If you absolutely cannot make either of these sessions, we will do our best to offer a workable make-up session. The orientations are required for you to be able to make a fully informed decision about enrolling your child in OWL.

To offset our costs for facilitator training and materials, we ask for a donation of $75 each for 5th- & 6th-grade OWL participants and $150 each for 7th- & 8th-grade OWL participants. Families with more than one child enrolled will receive a 25% discount. We do not ever want to turn away a family because of money, so if the fee is a problem, please reach out to our Director of Religious Exploration, Sharyn Routh (dre.sharyn@uucmp.org) for a no-hassle scholarship.
If you have any questions about curriculum, scheduling, etc., please contact Corey Brunson, our volunteer OWL Program Coordinator, at (214) 240-2144 or coreytb@swbell.net
