Proposals for Programming Support

Rethinking Place: Bard-on-Mahicantuck is a three year project which proposes a Native American and Indigenous Studies (NAIS) approach to a revitalized American Studies curriculum and undertakes an expansive understanding of land acknowledgment that goes beyond addressing a single institution’s history in regards to Native peoples. At its core, Rethinking Place: Bard-on-Mahicantuck asks: What would it look like to truly acknowledge the land beneath us, its history, and to collaborate with its continuing stewards? It affirms Bard’s tangible commitments to the principles and ideals of the College’s 2020 land acknowledgment by recognizing the need to address historical erasure and make space for marginalized epistemologies.

Rethinking Place and the Bard Center for Indigenous Studies accept thoughtful proposals engaging with the themes of Rethinking Place and its initiatives. We welcome proposals from all divisions of the college, from faculty,  staff, and students. We especially welcome proposals that creatively and expansively (re)interpret Rethinking Place themes. For more information go to https://rethinkingplace.bard.edu/ and https://cfis.bard.edu/

Relationship building takes time and genuine dedication. While building trust with community partners is imperative, academia has often been a tool of ongoing settler colonialism. Indigenous communities and peoples have long been subject to great harms as a result of extractive and colonial research methods implemented by academic institutions. This google form is meant to be a mechanism for Rethinking Place and the Bard Center for Indigenous Studies to ask our Bard collaborators to share, in good faith, the work that they have done in order to build reciprocal relationships with the communities and individuals they would like to invite to the Bard community. With more information on the collaboration, invitation, or event you are seeking support for, we hope to get back to you within two (2) weeks of your request with our decision and next steps.

Once submitted, please email cfis@bard.edu to alert us on your submission.

Thank you!

Sincerely,

The Rethinking Place Steering Committee and the Bard Center for Indigenous Studies team
