MESSAGE TO TUCSON CITY COUNCIL Title of Issue: Tucson City Council’s Response to the Global Climate Crisis Action Requested: We, the undersigned, request that the Tucson City Council declare a substantive Climate Emergency. This declaration should be followed within a reasonable time span by a Climate Action Plan that includes a rapid and just transition away from fossil fuels, a goal of carbon neutrality by 2030, and steps to address environmental injustices, eliminate waste, create green infrastructure, and adapt to an already changing environment. The climate crisis is here and is disproportionately affecting Black, Brown, and Indigenous communities. From agriculture to water scarcity and wildfires to air pollution, the climate crisis is intersectional and must be addressed as such. As a Tucson community, we feel this emergency declaration would be a significant positive step in city policy and for the safety and wellbeing for the residents of Tucson.
