As people received their first paychecks of the semester, we received many grievance forms from our membership. We filed three class action grievances with the university regarding members who did not receive the raise at all, international members with NRA withholding issues, and members with a previous master’s degree not receiving “post-master’s” level pay.
UNM has responded by refusing to discuss these issues, claiming that we should have had prior knowledge of these issues due to various emails sent to members and comments made in meetings (and thus our grievances should have been filed earlier). Since the university did not update contracts or pay rates in loboweb in a timely manner, we were unable to know our pay until it was paid to us.
The university has agreed to meet with three representatives about labor management in Scholes Hall April 4th at 11am. We are going to show up to Scholes Hall to show UNM that more than three of us have qualms with the way they are handling us. We will have a possible rally outside (attendance and weather permitting) and people sitting inside lining the hall, so they cannot ignore us and consider ALL our opinions.
