À l’occasion de l’exposition « Alberto Giacometti / André Breton, amitiés surréalistes », l’Institut Giacometti propose, en partenariat avec l'Association Atelier André Breton et la collection Phares, une programmation de films documentaires consacrés aux artistes et écrivains surréalistes : Jacqueline Lamba, Max Ernst, Claude Cahun, Victor Brauner, Dora Maar, Yves Tanguy et André Breton.

Claude Cahun est une personnalité emblématique et atypique du mouvement surréaliste. Poétesse, elle pratique aussi la photographie, se mettant en scène avec l’aide de sa compagne Suzanne Malherbe, ou créant des compositions étranges qui rassemblent objets et végétaux. Lesbienne, elle joue de son physique androgyne ; elle est aussi engagée politiquement. « Écrivain errant », artiste polyvalente, révolutionnaire, hors de tout conformisme – par souci de différenciation perpétuel et « manie de l'exception » –, elle offre une œuvre photographique innovante et déconcertante. « Toute création est création de soi », écrit Claude Cahun, rebelle à toute identification et pour qui « les étiquettes sont méprisables ». « Ne voyager qu'à la proue de soi-même », tel est son désir.

On the occasion of the exhibition "Alberto Giacometti / André Breton, Surrealist friendships", the Giacometti Institute proposes, in partnership with the Association Atelier André Breton and the collection Phares, a programme of documentary films devoted to surrealist artists and writers: Jacqueline Lamba, Max Ernst, Claude Cahun, Victor Brauner, Dora Maar, Yves Tanguy and André Breton.

Claude Cahun is an emblematic and atypical figure of the surrealist movement. A poet, she also practised photography, staging herself with the help of her companion Suzanne Malherbe, or creating strange compositions that bring together objects and plants. A lesbian, she plays with her androgynous physique; she is also politically committed. A "wandering writer", a versatile and revolutionary artist, who is free of all conformism - through a perpetual concern for differentiation and a "mania for the exceptional" - she offers an innovative and disconcerting photographic work. "All creation is self-creation", wrote Claude Cahun, who rebelled against all identification and for whom "labels are contemptible". "To travel only on the bow of oneself" is her desire.
